Understand who God is and who He isn’t

A critical component to your walk with God is understanding exactly who He is…and who He isn’t. You need to be very familiar with His promises and how He works. This world and Satan desire to lead us away from who God is, confusing us and making us believe that He is manipulative and controlling, using us as pawn pieces in some sick game.

The world is wrong and Satan is a liar!

Romans 8:28 tells us: and we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.

If He is working all things for our good, then His control of the world around us has a very specific purpose as well in bringing us to be the person He created us to be.

He watches over you and He will not slumber (Psalm 121:3).

God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill? (Numbers 23:19-20)

God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. (Hebrews 6:10)

He has caused his wonders to be remembered; the Lord is gracious and compassionate (Psalm 111:4)

The Lord is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion. (Psalm 116:5)

He provided redemption for his people; he ordained his covenant forever-holy and awesome is his name (Psalm 111:9)

And these are just a few!

Our God is mighty and powerful and He created US! He created us to love Him and to KNOW Him. What does it mean to know someone?

It means that we have INTIMATE knowledge of that individuals true nature. Take some time to really get to know who God is. It wasn’t until I took this time to disprove for myself the myths I had stored up about who He was that I was able to more clearly see the picture He was painting in my life.

Keep your Eyes and Heart Open

In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives it is easy to miss God moments. How many do you think you have missed in the last day, week, month?

When you know who God is and you slow yourself down to take notice of how He might be moving in your life you will start to make connections that you never knew existed. This is the moving of the Holy Spirit. But we have to continuously invite Him in. We have to be cognizant of His presence and ask constantly for His guidance.

Being guided by the Holy Spirit is an absolutely amazing adventure in faith and trust in our God. Some of what you see and hear may not make sense, may scare you, may challenge you…but it is all part of His bigger plan. His GOOD for YOU!

Psalm 119: 10-11 reminds us “I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”

The key is that you seek the Lord with ALL YOUR HEART. There is no room for wishy-washy seeking. You will become frustrated and this invites Satan in to create more lies.

When you sit down to read your Bible be open to Rhemas (we will look a little deeper into this in another post-click here to sign up for updates from the blog! ). In short, rhemas are connections in Holy Scripture guided by the Holy Spirit. They will speak to your heart in your current circumstances. Be open to the guiding of the Holy Spirit and trust that the Lord is leading you where He wants you to be.

Listen to Sound Advice

We are all bombarded with so called “advice” on a daily basis. Heck what you are reading right now is “advice”. I do my very best to myself be guided by the Holy Spirit when I write on this blog and I pray constantly that God will help me to lead others in sound doctrine and scripture. It is important that you find a mentor or two to help you in this journey.

Seek out other wives and moms who live guided by the Bible and seek their advice. The Bible tells us to be guided by sound advice from others…

For lack of guidance a nation falls, but many advisers make victory sure (Proverbs 11:14)

Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed (Proverbs 16:22)

He who listens to a life giving rebuke will be at home among the wise (Proverbs 16:31)

But it also cautions us in accepting guidance. It is vitally important that we have a sound understanding of what the Bible says and who God is before we seek advice. We must do this so that we may be discerning in acceptance of advice.

Nevertheless, be sure to seek out wise counsel from a biblically sound mentor!

Pray for Discernment

God will give us what we pray for if we ask for it with all our heart, not doubting His goodness (James 1:6). When you are trying to determine God’s will in your life, pray specifically for discernment in your circumstances, in your understanding of His movement around you, and for discernment in His will verses your will.

Pray for wisdom.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise. (Psalm 111: 10).

Proverbs 2:6-11 lays it out perfectly for us…For the Lord gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds victory in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. Then you will understand what is right and just and fair-every good path. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. Discretion will protect you and you and understanding will guard you.

Time to take Action

When you know who God is, you are seeking Him with all your heart, relying on sound advice, and praying for wisdom you are more likely to see things that God needs you to see as He directs your path. He will open your eyes and your heart more than you can do on your own. This will put you in a position to actually take steps toward God’s will for you.

God does not want us to stand idly and simply wait. He wants our trust and our willingness to move. If you have gone through the painstaking process to gain wisdom you will undoubtedly have more courage to take those steps when they present themselves.

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed (Proverbs 16:3)

In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps (Proverbs 16:9)

That last one always threw me for a loop…in my worldly mind I couldn’t help but think…well if he is just going to do whatever he wants what is the point in planning?? The point is that you have moved through certain steps to get to a point where you have gained wisdom enough to have your course planned in committal to the Lord. That is the key!

You will continue to move through circumstances that are bringing you closer to who God created you to be if you “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-HIS GOOD, PLEASING AND PERFECT WILL!” (Romans 12:2)

I challenge you to comment below sharing where you are at in this journey. Let others come along side you and help you on your way!

  1. Standing with your arms wide open towards the heavens, in full surrender. Asking God to take your soul and use it for his WILL. Is one of the most peaceful experience. Totally surrendering to God’s will, seems to always come with a heavy worldly price. Adversity – extra struggles, setbacks and such ……. seams to follow me biting at my heals as I dive deeper into surrender. This blog, these words are just what I and other women need….this these words are filled with the holy spirit of truth and LOVE. Thank you for your selflessness, by taking the time to use your God given talents to encourage us women on our journey towards a lifetime of loving our Father.
