I know you have been there…we all have…there is someone in your life that is being stubborn, not listening to sound guidance, fighting against all logic. You have used every convincing argument known to man to get the point across and you are tired of beating your head against the wall trying to ‘change their mind–or their heart’. Maybe its time for a step back…maybe its time to do a little trusting of your own…maybe God’s got this?!
Too much Static?
I have that person in my life right now. I love this person dearly and wish I could reach out and just shake them into understanding what I am trying to say to them! But you know what?? They can’t hear me…you know why? Because just like the rest of us (myself included), we can’t hear or see clearly when there is too much static in our lives.
I was trying to train the new employee at my office the other day and during a video session the speakers on the computer started making this awful static noise-it was impossible to truly hear what the video was saying. This is also true for our daily lives. When there is too much chaos, too much going on, too much to think about, too much distraction, it is impossible to clearly see what is right in front of us.
Can YOU really change their mind?
This morning I ‘randomly’ (its never random-the Holy Spirit almost always guides my Bible time) turned to Daniel 1 and found this…
Daniel 1:9(NIV)- Now God had caused the official to show favor and sympathy to Daniel
The word caused struck me hard. God caused the heart of the official to do something against his nature. God is that powerful, that He can change even the heart of an unbeliever to work for His purpose.
Trust and give it UP
So, it raised the question for me…do I trust God enough to turn over this loved one’s heart to Him for change? It is obvious that my ‘convincing’ is not changing this person’s mind…as much as I’d like to think that I have a powerful and ‘right’ argument! But guess what…God knows this person’s heart better than I ever have or ever will.
What is my role then? What is it that God needs from us, what is it that the person in our life needs from us? Trust-in God’s plan, in God’s timing, and steadfast adherence to His request on our life-to be a witness for Him in love to those around us. Turn over that person that you feel needs to change their mind to the loving hands of your Father and trust that He will work.
